CSSA Scholarship Funding

Among the listed purposes of The Clan Stewart Society In America, is the following:
"The education, particularly among the young of Scottish descent, of knowledge and practice in Scottish folkways"

This year, we have a perpetual $1000 sponsorship at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in Edinboro PA.,and at Lyon College in Batesville Arkansas, for the promotion and development of the Scottish arts through the medium of their pipe band. The funds will be donated to Edinboro University and Lyon College, and will be administered by them under the following criteria:

  • The successful candidate must be enrolled full time and maintain a Quality Point Average of 3.0 for the duration of the award.
  • Preference will be made to a member of the Clan Stewart Society in America.
  • The recipient is required to participate fully in the pipe band ensemble, including playing at concerts, competitions and university events as required.
  • The scholarship candidates must audition each year, as determined by the pipe band director.

Members who are aware of schools with curriculums that promote Scottish Arts such as piping, dancing or language, etc., and who would benefit from the CSSA scholarship program, please contact your Regional High Commissioners.

A CSSA scholarship check was presented at the Edinboro Highland Games on the campus Edinboro University, Pennsylvania, to Ms. Mia Harvey, a piper. Ms. Harvey piped the clans onto the field for the calling of the clans on Friday evening. Ms. Harvey has played the pipes for 8 years and has been competing for 5 years. She is a sophomore music education major with a concentration in bagpipes and a minor in special education at Edinboro University. The CSSA scholarship will be used to continue her education at Edinboro University. From Mia, "Bagpiping has completely changed my life for the better! I am very thankful for the scholarship and all it has done for me!"

The Clan Stewart Society in America is proud to announce that we have awarded a $350.00 scholarship to a wonderfully talented young highland dancer, Isabella Williams, the 2016-17 US National Highland Dance Champion (Ages 10-11) for her to enter the competition and participate in the The 16th BATD North American Sadie Simpson Highland Scholarships and Highland Weekend at the end of September in Nashville, TN.Scholarship was for invitation only entry fee to compete in the US against international competitors.

2015. Ken Stewart, vice president of CSSA presenting a $1000 scholarship check, to Ms. Carolyn Ward, a freshman member of the Lyon College Pipe Band, in Batesville, Arkansas.

Ms Ward has qualified for this award again this year, 2016.

Elissa Hapner of Aurora, Illinois received a scholarship to cover entry fees for Women's Athletic Competitions in the United States during 2017. Ms. Hapner is the Womens World Championship of Scottish Athletics World Champion for 2016. Ms. Hapner competed at the Glasgow Scottish Festival and Games (Glasgow, KY) in June 2017. She made it a point to come and visit the Stewart tent. When not competing, Ms. Hapner is an elementary school library resource assistant.
